In late April, scientists from the NSW Department of Planning and Environment, together with staff from South East Local Land Services, had the opportunity to engage local landowners in scientific findings from a two-year ecosystem health monitoring project evaluating riparian rehabilitation works in the Tilba Tilba catchment.

This was the third workshop with the Tilba Tilba community since 2019, focusing on updating them on the progress of the on-ground works, capacity building and knowledge sharing on ecosystem health assessment and discussing future management of Victoria Creek and the Tilba Tilba Lake system.

There were multiple presentations showcasing the current status of water quality, macroinvertebrates, vegetation and saltmarsh communities in response to a range of creek rehabilitation projects. The stream rehabilitation works were funded under the Marine Estate Management Strategy and coordinated by South East Local Land Services in conjunction with landowners and volunteers from Wagonga Land council.

The event was a great opportunity for the local community to meet scientists in-person and learn more about the factors influencing the ecological health of their local stream and lake system.

Following the workshop four additional landholders have reached out to South East Local Land Services to get involved in the riparian rehabilitation works with other community members interested in volunteering for citizen science water quality monitoring.
