Published 1 February 2024 Investigate the impacts of climate change on Aboriginal communities and culture in the marine estate and develop strategies to reduce or adapt to this risk.

Overview

Why is this project important?

As climate change continues to change the NSW coastline, the impact on Aboriginal cultural, geological and heritage sites and their use will increase.

There is a very high risk that some will be lost for future generations because of more frequent and intense storms and east coast lows, coastal erosion, flooding inundation, bushfires, drought and heatwaves.

What are we doing?

In partnership with coastal Aboriginal communities, we are working to understand the effects of climate change and guide actions to reduce the risk and protect Aboriginal cultural heritage sites.
