Sharper focus, bigger picture: Enhancing MEMS public reporting

A Message from Dr Russell Reichelt

Dear colleagues and partners,

As custodians of the NSW marine estate, we know how important it is that you can clearly see the progress and impact of the work we’re doing together.

From 1 July 2025, we are making some important changes to how we report on the implementation of the Marine Estate Management Strategy (MEMS).

These changes are designed to provide you with a clearer, more comprehensive picture of what’s being achieved and how those achievements are delivering meaningful outcomes for the people and places of our marine estate.

We will move from four reports each year to two focused and accessible publications:

Mid-Year Snapshot Report – this new report will replace the current three-per-year format. It will provide a concise update on all projects delivered between July and December, with a focus on outcomes and benefits, not just outputs.

Annual Implementation Report – this report will provide a full overview of the financial year. It will shift from showcasing selected highlights to reporting on the full suite of initiatives, giving a more complete picture of how MEMS is delivering against its strategic objectives.

Importantly, we are also evolving how this information is shared.

Alongside these formal reports, key updates will be published directly to project profile webpages, making it easier for you and the public to track progress in real time and explore outcomes in greater detail.

These changes will streamline our reporting approach while strengthening our transparency, accountability, and engagement.

They reflect our continued commitment to delivering a marine estate that is healthy, productive, and accessible for future generations.

Thank you for your ongoing support and collaboration.

Warm regards,

Dr Russell Reichelt
