Mooring strategy
Overview
Why is this project important?
Review and modernise the strategy for mooring management and administration to improve access to moorings
What have we achieved so far?
Transport has published information on its website about the new Moorings Action Plan (MAP). This plan aims to guide policy and operational changes across six core areas, with the goal of fostering sustainable, safe and environmentally friendly boating and mooring policies.
Our work has continued to progress actions under the Moorings Action Plan. In October 2025, representatives from Transport for NSW, NSW Maritime, the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (Planning and Crown Lands), the Department of Primary Industries (Fisheries and Marine Parks), and the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water attended a 2-day workshop to discuss the requirements for a Moorings Precinct Trial.
Mooring audits progressed as part of ongoing compliance and management activities. Audits are carried out each year between March and September, with every mooring inspected at least once every 2 years. Alongside this planned program, informal and risk‑based audits are undertaken as needed and may lead to compliance actions where issues are identified.
