Overview

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) works closely with many groups across the state to help threatened and protected marine wildlife.

NPWS uses an online reporting system called Elements to record and monitor marine animal incidents, including when they are found injured. Elements allows NPWS staff to keep an updated record of:

  • the species of marine animal
  • where the animal was found
  • what was wrong with the animal
  • what group is helping the animal
  • what progress has been made in the animal’s health.

This action is focused on expanding Elements. The work will allow groups that help NPWS with sick and injured animals to have access to statewide information and reduce the current reporting burdens. This will free up more time to work with wildlife.
