Have your say on managing coastal floodplain drainage

Consultation is now open on the regulatory rules for managing coastal floodplain drainage. You’re invited to have your say.

The Coastal Floodplain Drainage Project - Options Report was produced by an interagency working group and proposes 6 options to reform the regulation of coastal agricultural drainage works to reduce the complexity, time and cost of approvals, and improve water quality outcomes.

Coastal floodplains of NSW were once wetlands and backswamps. Historically many of these areas were artificially drained and high tides blocked.

The long history of land use and tenures, overlapping legislation and environmental consequences of these drainage networks makes their management complex.

These issues are not easy to solve, and we value your thoughts on the options presented.

Consultation is open from Monday 19 February to Sunday 21 April.

For more information and to have your say, please visit the Coastal Floodplain Drainage Project page.

You can also register to join a live webinar on Tuesday 5 or Friday 8 March to learn more.
