Women in science - meet Jezebel (Jez) Sherborne

In February, we featured profiles of four amazing women contributing to the NSW Marine Estate in our socials (@nsw_marineestate) to celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

Since then, we have been sharing them in or newsletter one profile per edition. Once we’ve rolled out these four profiles, we will feature more of our fantastic scientific staff - male and female alike.

Proud Wiradjuri woman and science-lover, Jezebel (Jez) Sherborne is our second scientist to be featured.

Jezebel is an Environmental Technician with the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW) Estuaries and Catchments team.

She recently joined the Estuaries and Catchments team following her Honours in Marine Science, where she investigated oyster reef restoration along the NSW coastline.

“I’m a proud Wiradjuri woman with a passion for all things science. I grew up snorkelling in the harbour after school, enamoured by the world living below the water. This enthusiasm, coupled with my love for the environment has led to the start of my career in science."

“Moving between the lab and canoes in tiny creeks, my work with the estuaries and catchments team gives me the skills to help manage and protect our dynamic waterways and have fun doing it.”
