Preserving traditional fishing practices
A men’s group from the Wallaga Lake Aboriginal community village will use a hand-made boat and fishing nets to preserve cultural fishing practices.
The men took part in a series of workshops over the past four months to regain important cultural knowledge about boat-building and net-making skills.
The boat-building and net-making projects were supported with funding from the NSW Government’s Marine Estate Management Strategy, DPI Aboriginal Fishing Trust Fund, Transport for NSW and the Katungal Aboriginal Medical Service.
Listen to a story about the project on ABC Radio.
