Restoring Sea Country back to health

Members of the Aboriginal community on the NSW mid north coast have completed a bush regeneration project to restore the health of a significant cultural site at South West Rocks.

Six men and women worked on a six-week project to clear the site of introduced weeds and replant native vegetation.

The site at South West Rocks has been important for the Dunghutti people over thousands of years.

The project provided valuable skills training and employment opportunities for the participants who have long-term plans to establish a bush regeneration contracting business.

Project funding was supplied to the Kempsey Local Aboriginal Land Council through the NSW Government’s Marine Estate Management Strategy.
