A state-of-the-art blueberry research facility on the NSW north coast has thrown open its doors virtually with the release of a video.

Technical Officer, Diana Unsworth, hosts the video to explain how the Department of Primary Industries Clean Coastal Catchments team is looking into ways for more efficient fertiliser use to help blueberry farmers and reduce nutrient pollution in coastal waterways.

The facility’s research team is coming up with new ways to give blueberry plants just the right amount of fertiliser at the right time while recycling nutrient rich irrigation water.

Less fertiliser waste means less nutrient pollution into creeks, rivers, and estuaries, as well as reducing harmful nitrous oxide greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.

The blueberry research facility is funded through the NSW Government’s Marine Estate Management Strategy.
