The Environment, Energy and Science (EES) Group of the Department of Planning and Environment is launching an engagement campaign to understand how coastal communities value and use waterways in NSW. The information will underpin a range of water quality actions under the Marine Estate Management Strategy 2018-2028, including applications of the Risk-based Framework, reviewing the NSW Water Quality Objectives, and the Marine Integrated Monitoring Program.

Feedback is being sought from waterway users across all coastal areas of NSW. This includes community members, recreation groups, industry, and local councils. A range of communication methods and channels are being used to ensure the engagement campaign is accessible to as many people as possible.

A core component of the campaign is ‘Our Waterways NSW’, an online survey developed by EES. The survey is available from 18th December 2020 to 26th February 2021. The survey only takes 7 mins to complete and will help us identify favourite waterways and activities, and how best we can continue to management them.

You can access the survey at environment.nsw.gov.au/topics/water/water-quality/protecting-and-managing-water-quality/nsw-water-quality-objectives-update-public-consultation
