Are you a boat or jet ski user – we need you to complete this survey! And go in the draw to win a $200 prize pack from ORRCA!

The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Marine Wildlife Team have partnered with the amazing team at ORRCA (Organisation for the Rescue and Research of Cetaceans in Australia) to distribute this survey to the recreational boating community.

This project aims to understand public perceptions around safe approach distances for marine mammals.

Information obtained through this survey will shape future engagement and education programs to promote awareness around safe approach distances for whales and dolphins.

We are very fortunate to have an abundance of marine wildlife along our coast.

While we all enjoy watching whales and dolphins from a boat, knowing how to reduce our impacts on these animals is important to maintain healthy populations, so that we can continue observing them now and into the future!

Whales, dolphins, dugongs, seals and sea lions are protected in NSW. Please help us keep these animals - and you and your vessel - safe!

This survey, conducted in collaboration with ORRCA, seeks to evaluate the awareness of recreational boaters in New South Wales about the correct approach distances for marine mammals.

It forms part of the Education to Protect and Conserve Marine Wildlife project, supported by the NSW Marine Estate Management Strategy under Initiative 5. This initiative aims to reduce impacts on threatened and protected species.
