Recreational Fishing Havens stocked with Dusky Flathead
Over 76,000 Dusky Flathead fingerlings have been released into five key Recreational Fishing Havens marking the end of the most successful dusky stocking season to date.
The Camden Haven River, Lake Macquarie, St Georges Basin, Lake Conjola and Burrill Lake Recreational Fishing Havens all received a fishy boost during March this year.
In a marine stocking first, 11,300 Dusky Flathead fingerlings were released into the Camden Haven River and a further 23,200 were released into Lake Macquarie.
All the Lake Macquarie and Camden Haven fish were produced by the dedicated hatchery at DPI’s Port Stephens Fisheries Institute, whilst the St Georges Basin, Lake Conjola and Burrill Lake fish were produced for DPI by Narooma Aquaculture.
Recreational fishing is enjoyed by more than one million people in NSW and fishing stocking increases the chances of catching them at popular fishing spots.
Recreational Fishing Havens stockings are funded through recreational fishing fees with contributing funding provided under the Marine Estate Management Strategy’s Recreational Fisheries Enhancements project.
